Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 14” MacBook Pro, M1 Max, 32GB RAM (2021)

I was using an Intel-based 16” MacBook Pro prior to this and the difference is night and day. I've never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through with our various launch simulations. I wanted to try out the smaller 14"e; size, but most likely I will switch back to 16"e; with my next upgrade.

  • Apple Pro Display XDR (Standard Glass)

The only display on the market if you want something HiDPI and bigger than 27"e;. When you're spending most of the time in front of a display, you would want the best one.

  • Kinesis Advantage 2 Quiet LF

This is simply the best keyboard for typing. The worst one for gaming.

Development tools

  • VS Code

One of the Microsoft products I truly admire. List of extensions I use: Alternate File, CodeTogether, Color Info, Docker, EEx snippets, Elixir Test, ElixirLS: Elixir support and debugger, Erlang, GitLens - Git supercharged, HashCorp Terraform, Headwind, Hex.pm intellisense,Language PL/SQL, MDX, Monokai Pro, Peacock, Phoenix Framework, PostCss Language Support, Rainbow Brackets, Remote - Containers, Tailwind CSS IntelliSense, Tailwind Docs, Vim, Window Colors

  • iTerm2

One of the best terminal emulators I' ve ever used. Why doesn't Ubuntu have something similar in quality?

Design

  • Figma

We started using Figma as just a design tool but now it's become our virtual whiteboard for the entire company. Never would have expected the collaboration features to be the real hook.

Productivity

  • Toggl

I found it helpful to track how many time I spend on what tasks.

  • Tomito

Experimenting with Pomodoro technique. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but couldn't find a better alternative yet.

  • Notion

It helps me keep my thoughts and ideas organised. Bye-bye Notes.

  • Focus

Simple tool for blocking distracting websites when I need to just do the work and get some momentum going.
